Who we are

Experts from educational science, subject-matter education, linguistics, media and cultural studies, neurosciences, economics, political sciences, psychology, sociology as well as information science and computer science have formed a research alliance of 25 institutions, the Leibniz Education Research Network Alliance (LERN), to bring together their expertise and to strengthen visibility for political stakeholders, educational administrators and in view of the public at large.

Our goals

Education is key to individual professional success and social participation. Education strengthens social cohesion and is crucial for wealth and economic development in modern societies. How can the potentials of education and for education be put to a better use? The Leibniz Education Research Network (LERN) sets out to seek better leverage, at the individual, institutional, and societal levels, for reliable concepts and promising reforms.

Four pillars of activity

The Leibniz Education Research Network (LERN) has four main goals which relate to its research and outreach activities: Joint research areas, exchange of research expertise, international networking activities, and knowledge transfer.

The members of the Leibniz Education Research Network have bundled their research into five main research areas.

A main goal of the LERN alliance is to foster the exchange of research expertise in various disciplines through

LERN Annual Research Meetings
Promoting young researchers (doctoral students, postdocs)
national and multi-national networks
international academic conferences e.g. Research on Intervention and Implementation in Education

One of the main goals of the LERN alliance is to foster international networking activities. The service point for International Co-operation in Education (ICE) provides support for initiating international contacts and enhancing educational exchange.

LERN strives to become a major contact point for international research and international co-operation in education and to act as counsellor and lobbyist in an international context.

It supports exchange of research expertise in international academic conferences e.g. Research on Intervention and Implementation in Education.

The Leibniz Education Research Network Alliance dedicates itself to enhance the transfer of research knowledge. The members of the LERN alliance maintain an on-going dialogue with the stakeholders in education policy and administration as well as other stakeholders in society and the public, in general.

Annual Fora on Educational Policy
Publication of a comprehensive review on the education system and educational potentials in Germany
Counselling educational policy makers and educational administrators as well as other stakeholders in society
