CIDER Spring Workshop 2026

The Future of Education: AI and the Digitalization of Education

Location: ZEW, L7 1, 68161 Mannheim

The CIDER Spring Workshop 2026 takes place from April 28-30, 2026 at the ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim. It is organized jointly by the ZEW, the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology, and the Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB), in cooperation with the CIDER Coordination.

The CIDER Spring Workshop 2026 brings together Fellows, Steering Committee members, and invited experts for three days of interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration in Mannheim. The workshop combines individual presentations by the Fellows, two keynote lectures, and intensive work in Micro Groups, creating space for both scholarly discussion and the development of joint research ideas.

The program features a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Andreas Lachner (University of Tübingen), as well as a plenary discussion on the future of education with leading scholars from different disciplines. A highlight of the workshop is the visit to the TUMO Center Mannheim, where participants engage with practitioners and learn about innovative approaches to digital skills education for young people.

Across the workshop, Fellows present their ongoing work, discuss data and methods, and receive interdisciplinary feedback. Dedicated Micro Group sessions support networking and collaboration, complemented by informal social activities that foster exchange beyond the academic program.
