Canonical Trochees in Reading Development” is a subproject of the DFG-funded research group “Weak Elements in Phonology: Development, Processing, and Modality.” The research group investigates various aspects of prosodic processing and brings together expertise from the fields of phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, written language research, applied linguistics, and dialectology. The subproject “Canonical Trochees in Reading Development” focuses on word prosody in reading and its development. The central research question of the subproject is: How do grapho-prosodic mental representations develop, and what role do they play in the reading process? Data for the project are collected in schools, and both quantitative and qualitative research methods are employed. The results of the project are intended to contribute to the evaluation of theoretical models of reading as well as reading instruction approaches.
