Extended study duration and student dropout are central challenges in German higher education policy. The research group “RegelWerk” examines how institutional frameworks—such as admission, advising, and examination regulations—affect academic success. The group leverages the considerable variation of these regulations across universities and federal states.
With interdisciplinary expertise, “RegelWerk” analyzes which regulations promote greater commitment and how this impacts students’ academic trajectories. The research is based on linked data on regulations and individual study paths. The goal is to develop evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and higher education institutions.
