Teachers in Adult Education - A Panel Study

TAEPS

In terms of the number of providers, events offered and participants, adult and continuing education is the largest education sector in Germany. Compared to teachers from other areas of education, however, relatively little is known about adult education teachers. This is where the study ‘Teaching staff in continuing education’ comes in.

The aim is to provide as comprehensive a picture as possible of teaching staff in continuing education. To this end, several thousand people from all areas of continuing education will be surveyed three times over a period of five years. At the same time, research will be conducted into how many teachers and which continuing education programmes are available. In addition to teachers, the survey will also include companies, institutions, administrations and self-employed individuals.

The DIE intends to use the results to provide a reliable basis for decisions in education policy and for the further education providers themselves. The information will also be used for research and for professionalisation and skills development in adult education. In this way, effective continuing education with better framework conditions can be created in the long term.
