The research work of the RWI is based on the latest theoretical concepts and state-of-the-art empirical methods and ranges from the individual to the level of the global economy. The institute spans five areas of competence: \u201cLabor Markets, Education, Population\u201d, \u201cHealth Economics\u201d, \u201cClimate Change and Development\u201d, \u201cEnvironment and Resources \u2018 and \u201cMacroeconomics and Public Finance\u201d. The research groups \u201cMicro Structure of Taxes and Transfers\u201d and \u201cProsocial Behavior\u201d complete the research profile. The \u201cResearch Data Center Ruhr at RWI\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rwi-essen.de\/forschung-beratung\/weitere\/forschungsdatenzentrum-ruhr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FDZ Ruhr<\/a>) provides data services and engages in research on regional disparities.arch on regional disparities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important work and services:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>RWI analyses the determinants of educational decisions and returns to education. In this research area, the particular focus of research is on higher education, training (vocational ecuation, lifelong learning) and the impact of education on labor market outcomes.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RWI assesses the causal impact of reforms and policy measures in the educational sector in Germany and low-income countries.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The institute conducts policy studies on the economics of education for public sector clients, such as ministries, the German Federal Employment Agency and the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RWI designs individual and company surveys and is involved in data collection. For example, RWI, together with the Institute for Employment Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leibniz-bildung.de\/en\/about-us\/network-partners\/iab\/\">IAB<\/a>), the German Institute for Adult Education \u2013 Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leibniz-bildung.de\/en\/about-us\/network-partners\/die\/\">DIE<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infas.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infas&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;Institute for Applied Social Sciences<\/a>, established a longitudinal linked-employer-employee dataset on lifelong learning.
